The Wednesday season 2 Netflix trailer has officially been released. The long-awaited follow up to the smash hit from 2022 will premiere in two parts starting on August 6th.

It’s taken three years for a new season of Wednesday to commence, likely due to Jenna Ortega’s busy schedule. She was already fairly well known before Wednesday took off, but the show vaulted her into a new level of superstardom.

Ortega and Wednesday Addams are a perfect fit. With her in the starring role and Tim Burton directing, it was hard to see how the show would not succeed.

I found many aspects of the first season’s story derivative. The “academy for troubled teens with supernatural abilities” concept has been done to death.

But Ortega’s outstanding deadpan acting, some creepy visual effects work, and Emma Myers’s bright, sensitive performance as Enid –  Wednesday’s roomie, frenemy, and temperamental opposite – made the season an enjoyable experience overall.

What can we expect from the second season? Will it be better? Worse? The same?  Let’s take a look at the new trailer and find out!

Quick Takes on the Netflix Wednesday Season 2 Trailer

0:19-0:23 – Steve Buscemi is in the house! He’s the new principal this season. His character seems friendly with Wednesday, but perhaps he is hiding a nefarious agenda, like many of the characters in the first season.

Buscemi should be a great fit for the weird quirkiness of the Addams family world. Honestly, I’m surprised he hasn’t been part of this franchise until now. Like Burton and Ortega, it’s a no brainer to have him involved.

0:23-0:29 – Wednesday is now a Nevermore celebrity. What a contrast from where she began the first season! It’s good to see that season 2 will avoid simply treading the same ground as its predecessor. This storyline may also be intended as a wink at how the show made Jenna Ortega super famous.

0:53-0:59 – Apparently the main story arc has to do with Enid being put in mortal danger and Wednesday trying to save her, only to find her life at risk as well.

This highlights one of the differences between Ortega’s Wednesday and Christina Ricci’s famous version of the character in the ’90s movies. Ricci’s Wednesday was coldblooded and borderline sociopathic.

It’s hard to imagine her caring about anyone, especially a non-family member, enough to risk her life to save them. Ortega’s Wednesday is eccentric, dour, and sometimes mean spirited, but she’s softer than the Ricci version.

1:15-1:17 – Wednesday cries tears of black liquid while being held captive by an apparent serial killer. Yikes. Reminds me of Michael Myers crying blood tears after Laurie shoots him in the eyes in Halloween II.

1:43 – Uncle Fester sighting! I don’t have data to back this up, but I think he has the second largest cult following of any Addams family character, behind (of course) Wednesday. He was underused in the first season.

Considering he appears for a grand total of one second in the trailer, I don’t have high hopes that he’ll play a larger role this time. Come on, give Wednesday’s favorite uncle something to do!

Trailer Time!

Wednesday season 2 will have eight episodes, half of which are directed by Burton, including the premiere and the finale. The first 4 episodes hit Netflix on August 6th and the last four stream on September 3rd. Check out the trailer here:
