VHS Halloween Trailer Delivers Spooky Treats!

Shudder has released the first teaser for the upcoming latest installment of their VHS found footage series. The VHS Halloween trailer gives a taste of what to expect when the movie hits streaming on October 3rd. This installment, the eighth in the series, includes six stories total:
- DIET PHANTASMA by Bryan M. Ferguson
- FUN SIZE by Casper Kelly
- HOME HAUNT by Micheline Pitt-Norman and R.H. Norman
- KIDPRINT by Alex Ross Perry
- UT SUPRA SIC INFRA by Paco Plaza
- COOCHIE COOCHIE COO by Anna Zlokovic
There are some odd titles here! I have no clue what “diet phantasma” means. “Ut Supra Sic infra” is Latin translating to “as above, so below,” which refers to how large forces, like the universe, affects individuals.
Grab a pumpkin spice latte, and let’s check out the trailer! It’s barely over a minute long, so I’ll make a few general observations.
We kick off with a parody of cheesy ’90s Halloween TV special commercials, with an announcer giddily proclaiming “six spooktacular stories that the whole family can enjoy!” This series has almost always been skilled at mimicking the past, and this is no exception. If someone only watched the beginning, they’d have no idea this was a teaser for a horror movie.
Of course, the VHS franchise is anything but family friendly, and the trailer’s tone quickly shifts as a series of disturbing clips appear. Naturally, there’s a trick or treat segment. I’m guessing this is from Fun Size. We also have one set in amusement park (excellent idea!) and another that seems to take place in an abandoned building – perhaps a haunted asylum.
It seems like VHS Halloween is covering all the bases when it comes to seasonal Halloween horror movie fun. I’m planning on reviewing it and ranking the segments next month!
