Reacting To The Woman in the Yard Trailer 2!
Remember the eerie, mysterious teaser that was released a month ago? Well, now we’ve been given a significantly expanded look. The Woman in the Yard trailer 2 is a bit more spoilery than its predecessor, but don’t worry, it still leaves plenty to the imagination.
The film is about a rural Black family. The dad recently died in a car accident, leaving the mom to care for her young kids. One day, an unidentified woman dressed in full funeral garb appears in their yard.
This trailer makes it clear (unless it’s trying to trick us) that the woman is a supernatural entity. The reason(s) why she has targeted this family are still not entirely clear.
“I don’t come unless I’m called.”
Quick Takes on The Woman in the Yard Trailer 2
0:00-0:30 – The beginning introduces the family and establishes the setting, with upbeat background music and humor. If I didn’t know better, I would think this was a drama or a bittersweet comedy.
0:30-0:50 – “There’s a woman in the yard.” The trailer quickly shifts gears, establishing that the mom (who is on crutches) and three kids are alone and vulnerable in the isolated farmhouse, with the looming threat of a stranger outside.
0:50-1:15 – The woman appears to be able to move objects without touching them. Based on what we’ve seen so far, this is a unique and innovative villain. Perhaps she’s a Grim Reaper type figure. Did the mom summon her somehow? Is the woman in the yard responsible for the dad’s death?
1:18-1:31 – The son threatens the woman with a firearm, but she is undeterred, telling him that he and his sisters are “ripe enough to eat.” It’s unclear whether she means this literally, but if so, it kind of reminds me of the witch in Hansel and Gretel.
1:42-1:55 – The mom says, “She needs light to make a shadow.” Is this a horror villain who is more powerful during the day? That would certainly be a reversal of the norm!
1:59 – “Let me help you like you asked me to.” The trailer strongly emphasizes that someone (probably the mom) summoned the woman. Did she want her husband to die and is now going to pay the price in blood?
Heavy, labored breathing noises are heard throughout the second half of the trailer. Is this the woman in the yard, or is it the sound of another character dying at her hands? So many questions!
The Woman in the Yard is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan). It hits theaters on March 28th. Here’s the trailer:
