Maika Monroe in The Hand That Rocks The Cradle Remake Trailer!
A few months ago, news broke about an upcoming remake of the early ’90s thriller Single White Female. It’s been awhile since there have been any updates on that project, but it may have started a trend. Now, another female-centered thriller from the same time period is being redone. The Hand That Rocks the Cradle remake stars Maika Monroe and Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the lead roles.
In the original film, a doctor takes his own life after several women accuse of him inappropriate sexual behavior. The doctor’s wife poses as a nanny for one of the accusers. She infiltrates the woman’s life and hatches a demented plot for revenge.
The Hand That Rocks the Cradle came out in 1992, long before the modern “Me Too” movement. It makes sense that this movie’s getting remade, since its storyline actually seems more relevant today than it did at the time.
How will the remake compare? They’ve cast Monroe, who is one of my favorite scream queens, as the nanny. This is a rare villainous role for her. Let’s take a look at this trailer!
The Hand That Rocks the Cradle Remake Trailer Breakdown
0:30-0:37 – Monroe staring into a mirror, slapping herself, and throwing herself into a wall certainly sets a tone for her character.
1:02-1:19 – This part implies that the mom, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, has mental health struggles, which presumably will lead to one of those “protagonist is the only person who knows the truth, but no one believes her until it’s too late” arcs.
1:53-1:59 – The trailer really lays all the cards on the table in this sequence. Trailers used to hold some details back, but studios seem afraid to do that now. They just go all out with the spoilery content.
I’m intrigued to see Maika Monroe play a villain. Other than that, this looks rather generic. There’s no way I’d pay to see this in a theater, but since I have a Hulu subscription, I’m planning on watching it.
You know what I want to see? A movie where this nanny is hired to take care of Esther from the Orphan movies. Now *that* would be fun!
The Hand That Rocks the Cradle remake will be released on Hulu October 22nd.
