Horror At The Box Office: Sinners Wins The Weekend
Horror has finally scored its first #1 weekend of the year! The Michael B. Jordan vampire western period pic Sinners unexpectedly toppled Minecraft for first place. Sinners stormed to the top with $45 million in North American and $60 million worldwide.
Word of mouth from both critics and audiences is overwhelmingly positive, which should bode well for a long run in theaters. Bolstering its hopes is that their aren’t many major horror releases coming up in the next couple weeks.
That said, it’s not all sunshine and roses. Sinners is a very expensive movie. Warner Bros spent upwards of $90 million on this flick. It’s rare for a horror movie to be such a costly investment. Sinners still has work to do to make a profit.
Still, the film is off to an impressive start. Along with being a box office champion, Sinners also takes the crown (for now) as the highest-grossing horror movie of 2025. It took only took three days for it to exceed The Monkey‘s entire domestic run in theaters.
Elsewhere, Drop finished in sixth place during its second weekend with about 3.3 million. That brings its worldwide total to about 21 million on an 11 million budget. A decent but unspectacular start for the new Christopher Landon thriller.

Clown in a Cornfield hits theaters on May 9th and Final Destination Bloodlines releases on May 16th. That give Sinners plenty of time to rake in the cash for the rest of April.
