Britt Lower, well-known for playing the spunky redhead Helly in the hit Apple TV series Severance, has signed on for the upcoming Jamie Lee Curtis-produced Sender movie. This psychological horror film co-stars Curtis and Late Night with the Devil‘s David Dastmalchian. It will be Lower’s first major horror role.

If Sender is successful, Lower could become a new scream queen. At nearly 40, she would be a late bloomer in that regard. But with her looks, charisma, and acting chops, I’m sure she could pull it off.

According to Deadline, Sender is about a woman, played by Lower, who is victimized by an ecommerce scam and becomes obsessed with finding the perpetrator. It’s not clear who will play the antagonist, but my guess is Dastmalchian. Filming has already begun, but there’s no release date as of yet.

It’s directed by Russell Goldman, who is adapting it from his acclaimed short film, Return to Sender (2022). Goldman has never directed a full-length feature before. That’s usually a difficult transition.

JLC Returns to Horror

This will be Jamie Lee Curtis’s first horror role since Halloween Ends. I hope this movie is better than that piece of trash. With this cast, I’m confident it will be!

Curtis doesn’t have a ton of experience with producing, so she must really believe in Goldman’s vision. She did receive an executive producer credit for the recent Halloween trilogy, but this, as in many cases, was likely a ceremonial credit awarded to acknowledge her prominence and reputation.

Sender features a lead actress who lacks horror experience and a director who has never made a feature film. Still, JLC’s experience with the genre, and horror filmmaking in general, should more than make up for this.

Sender is one to watch! Hopefully we’ll get more updates on it in the near future.
