The Scream 7 trailer is finally out! After months of speculation, we finally get something substantive about the next installment in the franchise. The official title is indeed Scream 7 and it will be released in February.

As everyone knows, this installment will feature the return of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) after she was absent from the previous movie. Courtney Cox, who is the only actor to appear in every movie of the series, is back as well.

Numerous other actors are expected to return, including several whose characters were killed off, such as Matthew Lillard and David Arquette.

My guess is that they will appear in visions or dreams. Another possibility is that Ghostface could use AI to create videos to terrorize Sidney and her family with images of her dead friends and enemies.

There’s a longstanding fan theory that Stu (Lillard) isn’t actually dead, but I’ve never bought into that, and there’s never been anything supernatural in this series. I don’t think these characters will be brought back alive.

In any case, let’s take a stab at this trailer!

Scream 7  Trailer Breakdown

0:00-0:31 – The infamous Macher house has apparently been turned into a spooky tourism attraction. Of course, a new Ghostface shows up to attack the current occupants. I assume this is going to be the opening scene, and it looks like a clever one. The last two Scream movies delved into satirizing true crime, and it appears this one will continue that trend.

0:43-0:53 – Sidney apparently is still living far away from Woodsboro – a smart move on her part, but that doesn’t stop this Ghostface from tracking her down. She’s now old enough to have a teenage daughter (that makes me feel old too!) and…awww, she named her Tatum!

Her dead best friend from the first movie, played by Rose McGowan, is famous for giving Ghostface his name: “Please don’t kill me Mr. Ghostface, I wanna be in the sequel!”

Ghostface implies that he (?) grew up in the same neighborhood as Sidney. This statement and the attacks at the Macher house suggest that the killer has a connection to Stu. Again, I would be really surprised of it turned out that Stu is alive.

If they were going to do that, I don’t think they would hint at it so heavily in the trailer. But Billy’s daughter was the protagonist of the previous two movies. Maybe Stu has a family member who has decided to get revenge against Sidney?

1:36-1:41 – Quick appearance from Mason Gooding and Jason Savoy Brown, who are returning despite the absence of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. How is this movie going to explain the absence of the Carpenter sisters? Will they say that Ghostface killed them off?

If I was them, I would refrain from doing this. It’s possible that Ortega and/or Barrera could return to the series someday. The script shouldn’t definitively close that door.

1:45-2:07  – Sydney giving her daughter advice on how to deal with Ghostface is reminding me of Laurie with her daughter (and grandaughter) in Halloween (2018). Laurie’s daughter was skeptical of her mother’s warnings for most of the movie, but it looks like Tatum has more respect for her mom.

2:20-2:21 – Somebody, probably Lillard, says “this is gonna be fun”, again playing up Stu’s possible return.

Scream 7 will slash into theaters on February 27, 2026. Here’s the trailer:
