No More Mr. Nice Mouse!

Screamboat, which stars David Howard Thornton (Terrifier) as a demented version of Steamboat Willie, has received a new red band trailer. Transforming public domain pop culture icons into demented villains is all the rage these days, so it’s no surprise that the original version of Mickey Mouse is receiving the horror treatment. I previously wrote about the first picture of Willie that was released back in January.

So what can we expect from this low budget indy project? The trailer is barely over a minute long, but it offers a glimpse at the upcoming flick. Here’s my Screamboat trailer reaction.

Quick Takes on the Screamboat Trailer

0:08 – 0:22 – “This boat is cursed. We’re all going to die.” I love a good doomsayer character! This guy reminds me of Crazy Ralph from Friday the 13th. People think he’s nuts, but he’s the only one who actually knows what’s going on!

0:40-0:42 – “A demonic rodent with shorts and a hat. Maybe it wants some cheese.” Ha! I’m sure Thornton had lots of fun playing this character.

1:05 – Thornton issues a high-pitched cackle. It’ll be interesting to see him play a character that makes noises. It’s unclear whether Steamboat Willie speaks, but he’s certainly not a mime like Art.

The trailer is loaded with humor and gore. This movie’s tone is exactly what I expected. It doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Screamboat gets a limited theatrical release on April 2nd. Here’s the trailer:
