Mike Flanagan Carrie Series Casting News!

The upcoming Mike Flanagan Carrie series has started casting. Deadline reported last week that Summer H. Hall is in talks to play Carrie White, a bullied teen with telekinetic abilities. Hall is no stranger to the genre, having previously played a major supporting role in the Chucky streaming series.
And, of course, Flanagan is no stranger to adapting Stephen King novels. He directed Gerald’s Game and Dr. Sleep. Amazon is expected to pick up the series.
Now Variety is reporting that Siena Agudong is being cast as Carrie’s enemy turned ally, Sue Snell. There are still several more major roles to fill. I’m most interested in who they cast as Carrie’s mom. And what about Sue’s boyfriend, who ends up taking Carrie to her fateful prom?
Or the kindly gym teacher (her name varies depending on the adaption) who tries to help Carrie, only to find herself in the crosshairs of the troubled girl’s explosive powers?
Updating Carrie for the 2020s

The series is a modern retake of the famous novel by Stephen King. Cyber bullying on social media is an obvious element for Flanagan to include. This is the first time Carrie is being adapted as a television series. The 2002 Carrie TV movie was intended as a pilot for a series, but plans were nixed due to negative reception.
The famous 1976 Brian de Palma film was followed by Carrie: The Musical (1988), The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999), Carrie (2002), and Carrie (2013). None of them came close to approaching the success of the first movie or book. That should change with Flanagan at the helm.
The series is expected to film this summer. A release date hasn’t been announced. Will it be out in time for the Halloween season? I’m hoping so. There should be plenty more news about this project coming up!
