M3gan 2.0 Final Trailer Reaction

Universal has released the M3gan 2.0 final trailer! Rumors were rampant early on that the sequel would take the Terminator 2 route and turn M3gan into a hero who fights a new, more advanced killer robot.

The trailers have revealed this is at least partially true. But it appears M3gan is still all too eager to murder humans. I don’t think she’s going soft this time! Maybe she’s only killing “bad” people? They could be going for an antihero vibe. Perhaps she’ll defeat her cyborg nemesis and then turn against her human handlers again.

Universal has much riding on this movie. If it’s a success, a long-running franchise similar to Chucky (who is also owned by Universal and could theoretically appear with M3gan in a future movie) is a strong possibility.

The original film was horror, while this one is more of an action flick. This, again, is similar to the difference between the original Terminator and Terminator 2. Anyway, let’s take a look at this trailer!

Quick Takes on the M3gan 2.0 Final Trailer

0:23- 0:24 – An establishing shot of the Golden Gate Bridge. The original was set in Seattle, but we’re headed to the Silicon Valley area this time.

0:24 – 0:29 – This trailer doesn’t hold back on the blood. Emilia eviscerates somebody, showing off her superhuman strength. I’m interested to know her backstory. Who created her, and for what purpose? She’s clearly not intended to be a doll like M3gan.

1:05-1:07 – M3gan stabs somebody and takes her costume, explaining how she gets her new look. I’m not sure why they felt compelled to put this in the trailer, it would have been better as a surprise.

1:40-1:42 – M3gan can fly, like Neo in the Matrix sequels. Makes me wonder if Emilia is also capable of flight.

2:25-2:30 – M3gan may have changed in many ways, but her love of dancing remains!

Overall thoughts – the trailer is too spoilery, like most trailers these days, but M3gan 2.0 looks like a lot of fun. The genre transition is audacious. They might alienate some horror fans with this approach, but I doubt this will be a major issue. It’s not like M3gan was a serious horror film to begin with.

M3gan 2.0 rampages into theaters on June 27th. Here’s the trailer:
