Keeper Trailer Breakdown!

Keeper is the latest movie directed by Osgood Perkins (Longlegs, The Monkey), who has burnished a reputation as a rising star in the horror film world. After venturing into dark comedy with The Monkey, Perkins is going back to his darker roots with his latest film. The Keeper trailer showcases an eerie and harrowing nightmare endured by its protagonist, Liz (Tatiana Maslany).
Liz and her husband Malcolm (Rossif Sutherland) are spending their wedding anniversary at an isolated cabin. Classic horror mistake, right? The cabin in the woods! Where’s Ash Williams when you need him? After Malcolm departs the cabin, Liz is terrorized by an evil force.
Judging by the trailer, Keeper is a return to the form of previous Perkins films like The Blackcoat’s Daughter and Longlegs. Like those prior efforts, Keeper is set during the winter, has a bleak eerie tone, and features a female protagonist who is threatened and/or influenced by malignant forces.
Keeper Trailer Breakdown
0:00-0:10 – Liz makes a desperate and futile attempt to open the cabin door. Her sheer terror effectively sets the tone for the trailer. Moaning and howling noises are emanating from the woods. Are these sounds made by whatever is threatening Liz?
0:15-0:19 – Jump scare time! The strange white figure here has a vaguely colonial appearance. Perhaps ghosts from centuries ago are haunting the cabin? That’s followed by a brief shot of a girl wearing an old fashioned dress, again emphasizing some sort of historical connection to the haunting.
0:25-0:47 – Liz pleads to go back to a time where “we didn’t know any of this.” Who is she talking to? Her husband? A ghost? A demon? The cabin owner?
1:27-1:29 – Liz gets grabbed by some sort of entity. This is the one part of the trailer that is maybe too spoilery, but it’s hard to say for sure without knowing the context of this scene.
This trailer captures a vibe without spoiling major plot details. That’s a rare feat these days.
Keeper starts haunting theaters on November 14th. It was originally scheduled for October 3rd but was bumped to November, probably so it would have less competition. Here’s the trailer:
