My It Welcome to Derry Teaser Reaction!
HBO released the It Welcome to Derry teaser this week! It’s an upcoming prequel saga set in 1962, decades before the events of It (2017). The nine episode series will chronicle the earlier exploits of Pennywise the Dancing Clown. I’m excited to see Bill Skarsgard return to play Pennywise!
Andy Muschietti, who is developing the series, mentioned that they are planning three seasons, with the second set in 1935 and the third in 1908. Sounds a bit like the format of the 2021 Fear Street trilogy!

Quick Takes on the It Welcome to Derry Teaser
0:22-0:24 – Derry, Maine, 1962. Derry is a fictional town that appears in numerous Stephen King stories. This will be a new era for the series. The novel is set in the 1950s and 1980s, while the movies are set in the ’80s and 2010s. This will be the first ’60s installment.
0:37 – 0:40 – A sign mentions “Bert the Turtle” – an apparent reference to Maturin, an ancient benevolent cosmic being who appears in the novel It and Stephen King’s Dark Tower series. The It films have allusions to Maturin, but never mention him directly. Will he play a part in the series?
0:40-0:42 – A series of posters of missing children. Pennywise has been busy!
1:17 – 1:19 – A group of kids, presumably Welcome to Derry‘s version of the Loser Club, join together to investigate Pennywise’s crimes after being told off by the police. It will be interesting if any of them are related to the characters from the movies. Derry’s population suffers from plenty of generational trauma.
1:41 – Pennywise appears briefly in the sewer. This is his only appearance in the teaser. With audiences already being familiar with the evil clown, I’m sure HBO figured it would be better to focus on the new characters and setting.
It – Welcome to Derry will premiere in Autumn 2025. The release date is TBA, but October would be perfect. Here’s the teaser:
