Tubi has developed a strong reputation for its horror offerings. There are plenty of well known classics to be found, but there’s also a vast lineup of weird, obscure genre films. Here are 10 quirky horror movies on Tubi ranked from least to most weird.
For the uninitiated, Tubi is a free (with ads) streaming service that was founded way back in the early days of 2014. Over the past year, the platform has risen from relative obscurity and gained a massive following. In June 2025, it reached 100 million monthly active users.
This list is *not* based on the overall quality of the films. Frankly, if it was, these rankings would be very different. But I love watching weird horror movies, and I know lots of other people do, too!
10. The Innkeepers (2011)

The Innkeepers, one of director Ti West’s first movies, chronicles the experiences of two employees, Claire (Sara Paxton) and Luke (Pat Healey), who work at a haunted inn. Both are interested in investigating the hotel’s alleged paranormal phenomena.
The inn is on the verge of shutting down forever, and the duo hopes to find ghostly evidence before closing the doors for the last time. They are especially fascinated by the ghost of Madeline, a young woman who hung herself in the hotel and supposedly haunts the basement.
This one starts off with a light tone but grows darker and creepier as the story progresses. The weirdest part of this movie is the ending. Many people are understandably confused and/or frustrated by how this film concludes. All I’ll say is to watch the final scene very, very carefully.

9. Witchboard (1986)

Witchboard is one of the many horror movies that teach us an important lesson – don’t mess with ouija boards! Seriously, folks, leave that shit alone!
Linda (Tawny Kitaen) and her friends contact a malicious spirit. The entity, “David,” becomes obsessed with Linda and wants to take control of her body.
This movie was ahead of its time in some ways. The entity causes a series of freak “accidents” that kill Linda’s friends in a similar style to what the Final Destination movies did later. Witchboard features many creative and unique demises, including a guy getting crushed by sheetrock and a girl being impaled by a sundial.

8. Lake Mungo (2008)

After a teenage girl mysteriously drowns, her family begins to experience paranormal phenomena around their home. Ghostly images of Alice (Talia Zucker) appear in the background of several photographs. Is she trying to tell them something?
As the family investigates her death, shocking revelations are unearthed, and the true nature of her demise becomes apparent. Lake Mungo throws in lots of swerves and plot twists. It will keep you guessing whether the haunting is real or a hoax.
This Australian found footage film tries mightily to mimic the style of a real documentary. It’s like a full length version of segments you’d see on shows like Unsolved Mysteries. It is entirely fake, but it does a nice job seeming real.
This movie is slow-paced, dour, and humorless, but it does manage to pull off some truly spine-chilling moments.

7. Death Screams (1982)

In many ways, Death Screams is a typical slasher of its era. It’s loaded with blood and gratuitous nudity (including one of those “beautiful girl randomly decides to go skinny dipping by herself in the middle of the night” scenes that were common in the early Friday the 13th movies).
The main thing that sets this movie apart is that it’s both a backwoods slasher and a carnival slasher. I can’t think of another movie that’s both. It’s set in a small woodsy North Carolina town. The local carnival is taking place, but an axe wielding maniac is determined to put a significant dent in the local population.
Death Screams has many bizarre moments, especially a scene where a girl gets pierced in the shoulder with an arrow. Does she run away? Scream for help? Fight back? Nope. She randomly decides to climb onto one of the horses on an empty merry-go-round, and stays there until the killer finishes her off.

6. Grave Encounters (2011)

The stars of a ghost hunting reality tv series journey to an abandoned psychiatric hospital with a reputation for being haunted. The evening starts slow, but people begin to disappear and the crew realizes that they are trapped inside. The malevolent spirits are determined that the investigators will join them forever.
There are a ton of found footage movies about hauntings, but Grave Encounters is far stranger, and more creative, than most. It incorporates time warps, bloody bathtubs, lobotomies, rat eating, and much more.
It’s always a risk when a movie mixes a large number of plot elements into one storyline. Sometimes this works (Tourist Trap) and sometimes it doesn’t (Spookies). It works pretty well here.

5. All Hallow’s Eve (2013)

All Hallow’s Eve, directed by Damien Leone, is essentially a weird prequel to the Terrifier movies. It’s an anthology of gruesome Halloween stories framed as a series of videotapes viewed by a babysitter.
A prototypical version of Art the Clown, played by Mike Gianelli, appears in each segment. An even earlier version of Art can be found in a couple of short films Leone made, but I have not seen them.
Be forewarned, this movie is just as sadistic as the Terrifier series The stories contain extreme violence, including child murder and sexual mutilation. It’s definitely one of the nastiest horror movies on Tubi.
This is a strange film to watch today, after Art has become a well-known icon. It’s disorienting seeing someone other than David Howard Thornton in the role. Gianelli does a nice job, but he lacks Thornton’s charisma. The mime-like characteristics Art is known for aren’t apparent yet here.

4. Frogman (2024)

Frogman is an amusing satire of found footage movies. Forget all those horror films about Sasquatch – how about one with a murderous frog armed with a magic wand and an insatiable lust for human women?
Back in 1999, a young boy takes grainy video footage of a mysterious frog-like creature while his family is on a camping trip. Years later, the now adult Dallas (Nathan Tymoshuk) is tired of being mocked by people who believe he faked the footage.
Based on the real legend of the Loveland Frog, Frogman chronicles the journey of Dallas and his friends as they journey to rural Ohio to find proof that the creature exists. Frog around and find out!
I enjoyed this movie’s self-awareness. The filmmakers were smart enough to know that a serious horror movie about a killer frog wouldn’t work. Let’s face it – frogs aren’t scary. They weren’t scary in Frogs (1972), which I covered in my 4th of July horror movies post, and they’re not scary here, either.

3. Deadly Manor (1990)

A group of friends on a road trip become stranded in the middle of a forest during a violent thunderstorm. As luck would have it, they find shelter nearby in a mysterious empty mansion. Despite numerous red flags (creepy photographs, a weird shrine, coffins in the basement), they decide to spent the night there. Clearly, these people have never seen a horror movie.
Anyway, it will come as no surprise that an unidentified assailant knocks off the group one by one. A woman in a white mask is lurking inside, and she’s not the only person in the mansion who’s hiding dark secrets.
Deadly Manor is a wacky slasher movie with an unusual villain. The characters are extremely stupid, so it’s hard to have much sympathy for them, but the mansion is a fun location, and the ending is utterly bonkers.

2. Starry Eyes (2014)

Would you do anything to achieve your dreams? Even (cue ominous music) sell your soul?
Sarah (Alexandra Essoe) is a wannabe actress who works at a Hooters-style restaurant in L.A. She is overcome with frustration after several failed casting auditions. Sarah is treated with pity and condescension by many of her so-called friends.
Her bitterness, rage, and obsession with success drive her to take extreme measures. After succumbing to the desires of a satanic movie producer, she experiences grotesque physical changes reminiscent of a Cronenberg body horror movie.
Sarah uses her newfound demonic powers to take revenge on anyone who has mistreated her. This movie goes to bizarre and dark places as Sarah spirals. Along with Cronenberg, Starry Eyes also reminds me of David Lynch’s work, especially Mulholland Drive. This movie isn’t worthy of a direct comparison to those directors’ best films, but the style feels broadly similar.
This is one of the best Tubi horror movies if you’re looking for a surreal and disturbing experience.

1. Neon Maniacs (1986)

A motley crew of mutants appear at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. They quickly dispatch a group of teenagers, but inexplicably leave one girl, Natalie (Leilani Sarelle), alive. Of course, no one believes her story about the mutants. They think she’s responsible for her friends’ disappearances.
Turns out that the only way to kill the maniacs is with water. Yup, they’re like the aliens in Signs. Why would these creatures decide to attack the Bay Area? Wouldn’t they have a better shot at survival in, say, Arizona? This is the only horror movie I’ve seen where a squirt gun is used as a deadly weapon.
Neon Maniacs is utterly incomprehensible (even the title doesn’t make any sense), but it’s a masterpiece of bonkers insanity. In terms of sheer weirdness, it’s one of the best Tubi horror movies.

Just Scratching the Surface

This list was challenging to compile because there are so many good horror movies on Tubi. Or, at least, entertaining movies. There are several hundred horror films on Tubi at any given time (as with all streaming services, the exact number fluctuates each month as movies come and go).
Honestly, I kept changing my mind about the movies I wanted to include. As far as streaming apps go, I’d wager a guess that Shudder is the only platform that offers a wider selection. With so many interesting genre flicks to watch for free, Tubi has a good chance of receiving another list on my site in the future.
