Horror at the Box Office: Send Help Delivers Strong 3rd Weekend

Although it was knocked out of the top spot, Send Help had an incredibly strong third weekend, earning about $8.9 million and finishing in fourth place. That’s a remarkably low 10% drop from last week.
The film has now grossed about $48 million domestically and over $73 million worldwide against a budget of $40 million. It will hopefully crack $100 million before the end of its theatrical run, which should be enough for a healthy profit even after marketing costs are considered.
Another strong holdover from last week was the French remake Dracula, which dropped about 32% and grossed $3.5 million for a domestic total of $9.5 million. These are strong numbers for a French film in the United States.
The Strangers Chapter 3 fizzled out of the top ten, finishing in eleventh place with about $2.2 million. It’s grossed around $7 million total. Chapter 3‘s overwhelmingly negative reception has prevented it from having any staying power in theaters.
The leggy thriller The Housemaid is finally nearing the end of its time in theaters, but it added $1.1 million to pass $125 million domestically. That earned it 12th place for the weekend.
The Housemaid has seduced audiences to the tune of an incredible $360 million worldwide on a budget of $35 million – easily making it one of the most profitable thrillers ever.

Psycho Killer premieres next weekend, followed by Scream 7 on February 27th. The recent controversies surrounding the Scream franchise don’t seem to have dimmed the public’s appetite for more Ghostface. Scream 7‘s presales are incredibly strong so far and it could have the highest grossing opener in franchise history.
Here’s to hoping for a Melissa Barrera/Jenna Ortega return for the inevitable Scream 8!
