Horror at the Box Office: Scream 7 Plunges, The Bride Flops

Scream 7 slashed a much smaller slice of the box office pie in its second weekend, plummeting 73%. That’s a huge drop even for a slasher film. In comparison, Scream VI dropped 61% in its second weekend.
Part 7 grossed $17.3 million over the three day frame, placing it in second place overall. It has now reached $93 million domestically.
It will certainly pass $100 million in North America by the end of its theatrical run and could reach $200 million worldwide. Those are still solid numbers, but the generally negative reception to the seventh Scream is going to keep it from having any real staying power. The opening weekend may end up being the majority of Scream 7‘s entire domestic gross.
I’m sure Paramount is disappointed by Scream‘s big decline, but they can thank their lucky stars that they didn’t produce The Bride! The latest Frankenstein picture, which cost $80 million to make, grossed a tepid $7.2 million in its opening weekend. It finished a distant third at the box office for the weekend.
The IMAX film has earned about $13 million worldwide so far. This is shaping up to be one of the year’s biggest bombs. The only question left is how much money it will lose.
Send Help landed in seventh place with $1.6 million, increasing its total domestic earnings to over $62 million. It’s approaching $100 million worldwide. Not bad for a $40 million budget.
