I Know What You Did Last Summer grossed $13 million domestically and almost $25 million worldwide, landing it in the third place spot at the domestic box office in its opening weekend. This falls far short of other 2025 franchise revivals like 28 Years Later ($30 million opening) and Final Destination: Bloodlines ($60 million opening).

Last Summer only cost $18 million to produce, so this is a decent opening in terms of making a profit. This isn’t a M3gan 2.0 caliber flop. But the tepid gross compared to other similar movies leaves the future of the franchise in doubt.

The film’s critical reception has been weak and audiences don’t seem enamored, either. It’s hard to imagine Sony being able to justify making another IKWYDLS installment anytime soon, unless it’s a low budget direct to streaming feature.

Sneaking into the top ten for probably the last time, 28 Years Later grossed $1.3 million and finished in tenth place. It’s earned $68 million domestically and $145 million worldwide on a $60 million budget. The threequel will likely hit streaming services this fall.

A sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, will release in January. This will be interesting – will audiences be interested in watching another installment so soon? It’s unusual to have a sequel come just six months after its predecessor, even when the films were produced back to back.

Together lands in theaters on July 30th. It’s a body horror film about a married couple in a codependent relationship, starring real life spouses Dave Franco and Alison Brie. Neon hopes to use Together‘s already strong critical acclaim to its advantage at the box office.

Marketed ironically as “the perfect date movie”, Together seems like a film that would hit strongest around Valentine’s Day. But, who knows? Maybe audiences will be up for some nasty mid-summer body horror.
