Horror at the Box Office: FNAF 2 Passes the Century Mark

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 dropped a precipitous 62% in its third weekend, grossing an estimated $7.25 million. Despite the large declines in its second and third weekends, the sequel still surged past the century mark, reaching $108 million domestically.
It’s made over $200 million worldwide against a budget of around $50 million. Solid profits, but will future films in this franchise perform well, considering the poor critical and word of mouth reception of this installment?
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 was the only horror movie on the top 15. Silent Night Deadly Night has earned less than $2 million worldwide and has mostly left theaters. So much for getting a potential Christmas bump in grosses. I have a feeling this movie will perform better on streaming.
Up Next

As I mentioned last week, the Anaconda remake hits theaters on Christmas Day. Will theatergoers be interested in some killer snake action? This seems like an odd release date. Anaconda would have fit better in a spring or summer slot. That’s when the original 1997 movie was released.
January horror movies include the M3gan spinoff S8oulmate and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. There are plenty of anticipated horror titles in 2026. I’m planning to rank my top ten most anticipated genre movies early next month!
