Horror at the Box Office: Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Rakes in More Profits

As expected, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 endured a major drop in its second weekend, plummeting 70% for an estimated gross of $19.5 million.

The sequel is still a major commercial success for Blumhouse. It’s grossed over $95 million domestically and $173 million worldwide on a budget of approximately $40 million. After a rough start to the year, Blumhouse finishes with two consecutive hits – this and The Black Phone 2.

The new Silent Night Deadly Night remake finished outside the top ten, grossing an estimated $1.1 million and landing in twelfth place. Audiences weren’t much interested in watching Santa slaying in theaters this weekend.

The news isn’t all bad, though. Although its official budget hasn’t been publicly released, I would be surprised if SNDN cost more than $2-3 million, making it a low stakes investment for Cineverse.

Do reviews even matter anymore? Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 received dismal reviews, while Silent Night Deadly Night‘s reception was mostly positive. Neither outcome affected box office performance.

The cupboard is pretty bare in terms of new theatrical horror releases for the rest of 2025. The closest thing is the remake of Anaconda, which premieres on Christmas Day. Does it count as a horror movie? I dunno, but it’s the only thing that comes close that’s releasing soon.

January is more interesting with the new 28 Days Later installment, The Bone Temple, premiering on January 16th.
