In another ho hum week for horror movies in theaters, Drop earned a respectable $7.5 million domestically in its opening weekend. This landed it in fifth place on a weekend that was again dominated by Hollywood’s only major hit of 2025 so far – A Minecraft Movie.

The $11 million budgeted thriller has made $10 million worldwide so far. It’s off to a solid start in terms of making a profit. The Woman in the Yard was the only other genre film in the top ten. It finished ninth with $2.1 million, climbing to over $20 million total.

Death of a Unicorn and Hell of a Summer fell to 12th and 13th, respectively. Unicorn has grossed around $9 million total. Summer has earned $2.9 million.

Sinners should *finally* give horror a shot in the arm when it premieres Friday. The heavily anticipated Ryan Coogler pic is expected to make a significant impact at the box office next weekend. Early reviews have been excellent. Warner Bros, riding high with their Minecraft success, will be looking to bolster their year with another hit.

That said, Sinners was much more expensive to produce than the typical horror flick. It has a high bar to clear. The film should easily take The Monkey‘s crown for the highest-grossing horror movie of 2025, but it will have to really rake in the cash to make a profit. It’ll be interesting to see how it performs!
