Horror at the Box Office: ‘Black Phone 2’ Back on Top

After finishing second last week, The Black Phone 2 topped the box office on Halloween weekend. It grossed an estimate $8 million, knocking its domestic total past $60 million and over $100 million worldwide.
That’s an impressive 38% decline from week 2. The sequel was buoyed by a strong Halloween, in which it grossed $2.43 million, ranking #1 for the day out all releases.
The Halloween weekend was a weak one overall for the box office, with most folks more interested in trick or treating than going to the movies. The Black Phone 2 was the only horror movie in the top ten. The second highest-grossing genre film was Shelby Oaks, which earned $770K and a 14th place finish. It’s grossed about $3.9 million domestically.
