Halloween is when ghosts and goblins come out to play. Horror movies and the spooky season complement each other perfectly, of course. There are numerous genre films set on and around October 31st. Many of these movies have truly terrifying villains. There’s nothing creepier than a supernatural monster that’s active during the spooky season.

Out of a vast rogue’s gallery, there are a select few that stand out. Here are my six scariest Halloween horror movie villains.

6. Ginger Fitzgerald (Ginger Snaps)

Motion International

Teenagers always experience rapid physical changes during puberty, but this girl takes things to a whole ‘nother level. Ginger Fitzgerald is a sullen Canadian high schooler who despises her boring small town. She is close to her younger sister Brigitte but hates everybody else.

After a bloody attack by a mysterious hairy beast, Ginger gradually becomes a monster. On Halloween night, she loses the last remnants of her sanity and transforms into a werewolf. No one, not even Brigitte, is safe from her wrath.

Strengths: Ginger is quite intelligent. She wields her sharp sardonic wit as a weapon against anyone who mocks her eccentricities. Ginger is considered desirable by many of the teenage boys in town, which makes it easy for her to manipulate them. She possesses superhuman strength when in her werewolf form.

Weaknesses: As a werewolf, Ginger is a reckless beast with little control over her actions. This puts herself, and anyone she cares about, in mortal danger.

5. Bagul (Sinister)

Lionsgate

Bagul is an ancient Babylonian god who steals and devours the souls of human children. He terrorizes families during the Halloween season. Creepy video footage exists of Bagul’s crimes, all of which involve the fiendish entity manipulating young children to murder their parents and older siblings.

Strengths: Bagul is an immortal supernatural deity who cannot be easily controlled or defeated. He is a ruthless manipulator who rarely has difficulty convincing children to do his evil bidding.

Weaknesses: His mouth is permanently sewn shut. No wonder he’s pissed off.

4. Angela Franklin (Night of the Demons)

Angela Franklin is an ’80s goth girl who decides to throw a rowdy Halloween party at Hull House, an abandoned mortuary. Despite her warnings, the bumbling drunk partygoers summon a group of demons who inhabit the morgue. Angela becomes possessed. She transforms into a grotesque monster who slaughters people and collects their souls.

Strengths: Angela can move objects with her mind, levitate, teleport, and possess other people, all while spouting Freddy Krueger-style wisecracks.

Weaknesses: She is generally unable to escape the immediate surrounding area around Hull House. Like most demons, she is also vulnerable to religious artifacts such as crosses and holy water.

3. Art the Clown (Terrifier)

Dread Central

Art is a supernatural clown from a parallel dimension who goes on a Halloween night rampage. He is a serial killer, torturer, and cannibal.

Art’s only known motivation is sadism. He is amused by inflicting pain and terror. Art has a propensity for trickery and is often able to fool his victims, for example by playing dead or pretending to be seriously injured.

Strengths: Art has quick reflexes, superhuman agility, and skill with a wide variety of weapons. He has resurrected himself on multiple occasions.

Weaknesses: He can be killed (temporarily) by a magic sword wielded by his archenemy, Sienna Shaw.

2. Sam (Trick ‘r Treat)

underrated villains
Warner Bros

Sam is a tiny Chucky-sized demon who is the embodiment of the spirit of Halloween. He enforces the four ancient rules of Samhain: always wear a costume, never take down your decorations before midnight on October 31st, respect the dead, and always give candy to trick or treaters.

Strengths: Sam is empowered by numerous supernatural abilities, including teleportation, telekinesis, limb regeneration, and clairvoyance. He is also capable of resurrecting the dead as zombies.

Weaknesses: Although he’s stronger than he looks, Sam’s size makes it challenging for him to subdue larger adversaries.

1. Michael Myers (Halloween)

Universal Pictures

If you’ve been living under a rock for past 40 years or so, Michael Myers is a serial killer from Haddonfield, Illinois. At the age of six, Michael stabs his sister Judith to death and is placed in a mental institution.

Fifteen years later, the grown Myers escapes and embarks on a Halloween rampage. He targets a young woman, Laurie Strode, who (depending on which franchise continuity you are following) may or may not be his long lost sister.

Michael is aptly described by his psychiatrist as “evil on two legs”. He is nicknamed “the Shape” due to his silent omniscient presence.

Strengths: Michael is handy with a knife. He possesses superhuman strength and endurance. Michael is also remarkably patient, often waiting years or even decades for the right time to strike.

Weaknesses: He’s only active during the Halloween season. If it’s not October, you probably don’t have to worry about Michael coming after you.
