Netflix has announced the Fear Street Prom Queen release date and issued a brief teaser with new footage. Their fourth Fear Street installment will be released on May 23!

This is obviously perfect timing, since late May/early June is prom season. Starting with Carrie (1977), many horror movies have featured proms and other formal high school dances. There’s the Jamie Lee Curtis slasher Prom Night (1980) and its sequels and remake, Jennifer’s Body (2009), Tragedy Girls (2017), and The Loved Ones (2009), to name a few. This is a mixed bag of movies. Hopefully Fear Street Prom Queen will be one of the best ones.

This is Netflix’s first attempt at adapting one of the series’ novels. Their 2021 Fear Street trilogy took elements from the books, but used original storylines. In fact, I believe this is the first prom horror movie to be based on a book since Carrie.

“This is Shadyside. Nice girls don’t win.”

I’m looking forward to seeing a full Fear Street Prom Queen trailer. That should be coming within the next couple of months. This teaser is super brief and, honestly, it doesn’t reveal much that we didn’t already know. I’m going to save a detailed reaction for the full-fledged trailer.

In any case, it’s nice to see that Netflix is putting an effort into promoting this new installment. Hopefully it will lead to more R.L. Stine novels getting adapted on the platform.

Along with Fear Street and Goosebumps, Stine also wrote a four-part series called The Babysitter. It’s about a teen girl who receives a series of creepy phone calls while she is, you guessed it, babysitting. I read them as a teen. I think that at least the first one, for sure, could be made into a fun movie, especially if they keep the ’80s setting.

Here’s the teaser:
