Drop Trailer 2 Reaction!
A First Date From Hell
With the film’s premiere arriving this month, Universal’s new Drop trailer offers an expanded take on what the new Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) flick has in store for us. I reacted to the initial trailer here. Here is my Drop trailer 2 reaction.
Meghann Fany stars as a Violet, a widow on a first date with a dude at a fancy upscale restaurant. She receives an alarming series of text messages. The anonymous texter threatens her young son (who is home with a babysitter) and insists that she not tell her date about the messages. Is her date involved, or is he another innocent victim?
An intriguing premise indeed. If Landon’s previous movies are any indication, Drop will feature both chuckles and chills.
Quick Takes on Drop Trailer 2
0:01 – 0:05 – Interestingly, this trailer starts with the cliffhanger that its predecessor ended with – Violet falling through an open window and nearly plunging to her death before snatching a hanging table cloth.
0:15-0:20 – “You have to be within fifty feet to send a drop. It’s someone in the restaurant.” Violet’s tormentor is someone nearby, or at least that’s what her date is claiming. The obvious suspect is the guy she’s with, but it can’t be that simple, right? More likely he’s a red herring.
0:41-0:43 – The harasser is apparently targeting other people at the restaurant and punishing them if Violet misbehaves.
0:48 – The texter orders Violet to kill her date. It would be an interesting twist if the guy is the true victim/target. Of course, this could easily be a bluff to keep her from suspecting him.
0:56-0:59 – Violet is back home and sneaking around while trying to evade the masked man. This is the most spoilery footage we’ve seen, Apparently she survives whatever happens at the restaurant. Her date is nowhere to be found. Is he helping her? Hurting her? Dead? All of the above?
1:19-1:21 – You want spoilers? We got spoilers! Brief clips are shown of Violet in a physical altercation with the masked man in her home.
With positive buzz generated by complimentary early reviews (some of which are trumpeted in the trailer), this movie has the makings of a sleeper hit. Honestly, I hesitate to be optimistic when movie theaters are in such a slump these days. But that can’t last forever, can it? Drop drops (har har) into theaters on April 11th. Here’s trailer 2:
