A Child Star Turned Scream Queen

Danielle Harris burnished her scream queen credentials at a young age. When she was eleven, she starred as Jamie Lloyd, Michael Myers’s ill-fated niece, in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988). That film’s commercial success led to her return in Halloween 5: The Return of Michael Myers (1989).

Harris wisely turned down reprising her role in Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995). She later returned to the franchise in the 2007 Halloween remake. This time, she played Annie Brackett, taking over the role from Nancy Loomis. Harris then came back yet again in the sequel to the remake, Halloween II (2009).

Of course, it’s not just Halloween that Harris is known for. She also starred in three installments of the Hatchet series as Mary-Beth Dunston. Harris took over the role in Hatchet II, returned in Hatchet III, and appeared briefly in the fourth installment, Victor Crowley. 

Random Tidbits

-Outside of horror, Harris is best known for her role in the popular early ’90s comedy series Roseanne.

-Harris is one of the most prolific scream queens in terms of acting credits. She’s appeared in dozens of horror movies besides Halloween and Hatchet. I don’t think most fans realize how many Danielle Harris movies are out there!

-Danielle directed the movie Among Friends in 2013. It’s currently the only feature film she’s helmed. Kane Hodder, her Hatchet II and III costar, appears.

-Harris was harassed by an obsessed stalker when she was a teenager. Police arrested the man after he showed up at her home brandishing a firearm.

-She cohosts a podcast, Talk Scary To Me, with her Halloween remake costar Scout Taylor-Compton.

What’s next for Harris?

Danielle has consistently expressed interest in returning to Halloween and is hopeful that she will return as Jamie Lloyd in the rumored upcoming Halloween television series. This is strictly speculation for now. Nothing specific about this series has been announced, and it’s unclear if it will be produced.

In the meantime, Harris and her podcast bestie Scout Taylor-Compton are co-directing, co-writing, and co-starring in a new slasher movie: Last Chance Motel. This project was just announced, so there’s no release date yet.

I am intrigued. It looks fun, plus Heather Langenkamp is involved! Harris and Langenkamp have never been in the same movie. Middle-aged scream queens unite!
