I React to the Creepy Bring Her Back Teaser!
Bring Her Back is a mysterious upcoming film co-directed by the Philippou brothers, who made the 2023 hit Talk To Me. Speculation is rife if there is a connection. Is this a secret sequel, prequel, or spinoff to Talk to Me? A24 just released the Bring Her Back teaser. It shows some intriguing parallels between the two films.
Few details have been released about the storyline. A brother and sister discover that their foster mother, played by Sally Hawkins (Paddington, The Shape of Water) engages in creepy supernatural rituals.
0:01 – 0:15 – the teaser opens innocuously enough, with a cat eating food out of a bowl. A loud thump is heard, scaring the cat. It flees down a hallway and there’s another jarring thump, causing the kitty to let out a scared meow. Threatening an innocent animal definitely sets a creepy tone right off the bat.
0:16 – The screen goes black and the words “let her die” appear on the screen, followed later by “bring her back.” Is this a Pet Sematary type of story where somebody brings their dead loved one back to life with horrifying consequences?
O:37 – We see a funeral with someone moaning in the background. Obviously, grief will be a strong theme in this film, as it was in Talk To Me. Perhaps the foster mom had a previous child who passed away? Does she intend to sacrifice the foster kids to get her child back?
0:46 – a young boy, presumably the foster son, puts his bloody hand on a window. Looks like this is the type of horror movie where animals and kids will both be in grave danger.
0:52 – the teaser concludes with two people standing inside a circle in a forest. A woman says, “are you in there?” This seems to be hinting at a possession storyline, which, again, is an element that was prominent in Talk to Me.
Whether Bring Her Back is set in the same universe or not, it’s clear that the Philippou brothers are aiming to recreate their previous success. Hopefully this can live up to Talk to Me!
