Bone Lake Movie Trailer: Vacation Thriller Hits Theaters This October

Bleecker Street has released the red band teaser for their upcoming Bone Lake movie. It’s about two young couples who mistakenly rent the same vacation house for the weekend – a sprawling, isolated mansion located deep in a forest. This could easily be the plot of a silly romcom (or a porn), but the movie is a slasher/erotic thriller/dark comedy.

Bone Lake has built buzz after premiering at Fantastic Fest in 2024. Critics have gone wild over this movie so far, with some hailing it as among the year’s best. So what does the trailer tell us? This premise seems similar to The Rental (2020), and there are Speak No Evil (2022) vibes as well.

This is a backwoods horror film, the type of genre that most often hits theaters in the summer. Bone Lake, however, is scheduled for an October release.

It’s just as well. After the cancelation of Saw XI, the ’25 Halloween season needs another movie to bolster its lineup. As it stands, the major October theatrical release is The Black Phone 2 on the 17th.

We’re also getting The Strangers Chapter 2 on September 26th. A Five Nights at Freddy’s sequel was originally going to premiere in October as well, but it’s been pushed back.

If the critics are to be believed, Bone Lake has a solid chance of being the best original theatrical horror movie of the season. Bleecker Street, the distributor, is a little indie company, so this will be a fun underdog story if the film is a success. Let’s take a look at the trailer!

Quick Takes on the Bone Lake movie trailer

The teaser is barely over a minute long, so this is going to be short.

0:00-0:10 – Some nice atmosphere setting here, with a ticking clock, footage of a beautiful lake surrounded by a lush forest, and the front of an enormous mansion located within the area.

0:20-0:55 – This trailer is anything but subtle. Most of it consists of a montage of partying, brutality, and erotic moments, while the ’80s punk rock song “sex and violence” plays on the soundtrack.

Bone Lake clearly has no pretensions about what it’s offering viewers, and the photogenic cast (especially Maddie Hasson – wowza!) will help add to its entertainment value.

0:55 – 0:58 – The couples toast each other. I’m going to assume this is early in the movie, probably their first night together, before things get spooky. I’m interested to see if one or more of them is the killer, or if (as in The Rental) they are all being stalked by a mysterious stranger.

The Bone Lake movie release date is October 24th, one week after The Black Phone 2. It will premiere exclusively in theaters.
