Alien Earth Teaser: Will The Upcoming Series Be Worth Watching?
Hulu just released the first Alien Earth teaser, and it gives us a brief look at the upcoming series. This show will be a franchise groundbreaker for a couple of reasons: it’s the first streaming series of the franchise and also the first time that xenomorphs will appear on our home planet (except for the Alien vs. Predator movies).
The series is a prequel set a couple of years before the original Alien. The teaser tells us basically nothing about the storyline, but I’m sure we’ll learn more as we get closer to the release. Noah Hawley is the showrunner. He’s been successful with acclaimed shows like Fargo, but doesn’t have much experience with horror or sci-fi.
Honestly, it’s shocking that its taken this long for Alien to have an installment with an Earth setting. Way back in 1991, 20th Century Fox released a notoriously misleading teaser for Alien 3 that implied the film would be set on Earth. “On Earth, everyone can hear you scream,” the narrator ominously intones. This would have been a clever tagline, but sadly, the series went in a different direction.
Alien 3 struggled through a troubled development process that included numerous script changes. The final result had absolutely nothing to do with xenomorphs attacking Earth. Decades later, Hulu is set to finally bring this concept to life.
Based on what little we’ve seen so far, I’m looking forward to this series. Xenomorphs vs. humans who have homefield advantage should make for an interesting battle.
