The 13 Best Horror Movie Quotes From Victims

The Villains Don’t Always get the best lines
I listed my favorite villain horror movie quotes in a previous post. Now it’s the victims’ turn. There’s always been a yin and yang between villains and victims in horror flicks. Horror antagonists rarely achieve icon status without facing off against at least one formidable rival.
While the bad guys often get the most fun lines, their counterparts also have their share of iconic quotes. Here’s my 13 favorite horror movie quotes from victims/protagonists.
A couple of characters have multiple entries. I’ve always been a big fan of Dr. Loomis in Halloween. I could easily make an entire list of quotes from him alone. The same goes for Ash Williams in the Evil Dead franchise. In order to spotlight more characters, I limited him to a couple of great quotes from Army of Darkness.
“it was the boogeyman.” – Laurie, Halloween

“As a matter of fact, it was.” – Dr. Loomis, Halloween, responding to laurie’s quote above
“He had the blackest eyes…the Devil’s eyes.” – Dr. Loomis, Halloween
“You Don’t Know What Death is!” – dr. loomis, halloween II

“They’re here!” – Carol Anne, Poltergeist

“I See Dead People.” – Cole, The Sixth Sense

“Not in my movie.”- Sydney, Scream

“Whatever you do, don’t fall asleep!” – Nancy, A Nightmare on Elm Street

“You’re going to need a bigger boat.” (often misquoted as “we’re going to need a bigger boat.”) – Roy, Jaws

“This is my BOOM stick!” – Ash, Army of Darkness
“Good? Bad? I’m the guy with the gun.” – Ash, Army of Darkness
“Get Away from her, you bitch!” – Ripley, aliens

“I’m scared to close my eyes…and I’m scared to open them.” – Heather, The Blair Witch Project

Selling the fear

Most of the quotes above are describing the movies’ villains or expressing the victims’ fear, anger, and anxiety. These lines help sell the villain to the audience. Horror films need to make their antagonists convincingly menacing. Memorable quotes are among the best ways to do that.
As I stated in my horror villain quotes post, another major factor that makes these lines memorable is how the characters deliver them. The writing obviously matters, but the lines above wouldn’t be as unforgettable if it wasn’t for the way that the performers said them. That’s a testament to the performances of all the actors who portrayed these characters.
