Dream Girl

Langenkamp, of course, is best known for playing Nancy Thompson in the first, third, and seventh Nightmare on Elm Street movies. She had racked up a few acting credits when she attended an audition for the original Elm Street.
Langenkamp, who was attending Stanford at the time, had previously auditioned for the starring role in Night of the Comet. She was beaten out by Catherine Mary Stewart. Now, it was Heather’s turn to get her big career break. Craven didn’t want a Hollywood starlet to play Nancy. He needed someone who had a “girl next door” vibe, and Langenkamp fit the bill.
The movie’s massive surprise success led to Nancy becoming one of the slasher genre’s most well-known final girls. She returned in part 3, Dream Warriors (1987), as a sleep doctor who helps a new generation of teens fight against Freddy. In Wes Craven’s New Nightmare (1994), she plays a fictional version of herself battling Freddy in the real world.
Like Jamie Lee Curtis and Laurie Strode, Heather and Nancy have achieved horror legend status. Langenkamp has expressed interest in returning to the series in a legacy sequel. Other than Elm Street, Heather is mainly known for her television work. She’s appeared in American Horror Story, The Midnight Club, Growing Pains, and Just The Ten of Us, among many others.
Random Tidbits

-Heather is married to makeup FX artist David LeRoy Anderson. They had two children, a son and a daughter. Tragically, their son died of cancer in 2018. He was 26 years old.
-She narrated the comprehensive franchise documentary Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy (2010) and also produced and starred in the documentary I am Nancy (2011) where she reflects on her career and talks to fans. Sadly, it doesn’t appear to be available for streaming currently.
-Heather has worked as a radio disc jockey (using the pseudonym “Sandy Bottoms”) for the Malibu-based radio station KBUULP.
-She was inducted in the Fangoria Hall of Fame in 1995.
Girl Next Door

As I previously mentioned, Craven chose Heather because she was the typical girl next door instead of a sleek, polished star. I think that’s the key to Nancy’s prominence as a final girl.
Langenkamp didn’t attend a major acting school or have much formal training at the beginning of her career. She lacked the sleekness of a seasoned professional, which ironically has helped her career. Heather gives natural, authentic performances, which make it easy for fans and viewers to identify with her characters.
Heather is still active in the industry. She’s set to co-star in Last Chance Motel with Danielle Harris and Scout Taylor-Compton. No release date has been announced yet.
