Filming is Underway on the Crystal Lake Prequel Series

After a long and tumultuous journey, a new addition to the Friday the 13th franchise is officially underway. Filming began last week for the upcoming Crystal Lake prequel series. This is the first time in over 15 years that new material is filming for this famous franchise. Mind boggling!
The Crystal Lake Friday the 13th prequel will be eight episodes long. Future seasons are planned if it’s a success. As previously reported, Linda Cardinelli has been cast in the main role of Pamela Voorhees.
Casting News
Cameron Scoggins has signed on to play Officer Dorf, a minor character from the original movie. In Friday the 13th (1980), Dorf is a strict, heavy handed detective with a fondness for motorcycles. He has a tense confrontation with the teenage camp counselors in the middle of the movie (hilariously declaring that “We ain’t gonna stand for no weirdness out here!”) and plays a part in saving Alice at the end.
I’m interested to see why the series decided to bring this guy back and how they will use him. It would have been easy to make up a new cop character. Apparently there’s something about Dorf that showrunner Brad Caleb Kane feels will be interesting to explore. Could he be a love interest for Pamela? That would be ironic – a future serial killer dating a cop.
No word yet on who will play Pamela’s son. Jason is virtually certain to appear as a kid. This is going to be a challenging casting process. Child Jason needs to convey vulnerability and at least a hint of menace in order to be effective. How many kid actors can pull that off?
It’s unknown whether the adult version will be integrated into the series. There are no longer legal issues preventing the grown hockey-masked Jason from being involved, so they can use him if they wish. I’d recommend it, for both commercial and quality reasons!
Stay Tuned!
We don’t know when filming will be complete, nor is there any timeframe for a trailer, let alone a release date. Earlier this year, I was hoping they’d have the premiere by October ’25, but that’s not going to happen. We’re looking at a 2026 release most likely.
Stay tuned for more updates on this series and future Friday the 13th projects. After a long drought, I have a feeling there’s going to be a busy future for this franchise!
