My (Belated) 28 Years Later Trailer Reaction

28 Years Later is the long-awaited threequel in a franchise that includes 28 Days Later (2002) and 28 Weeks Later (2007). Sony Pictures released the trailer back in December. Here, finally, is my 28 Years Later trailer reaction.
Sony has been surprisingly quiet in terms of promoting this film. There’s still nearly 2.5 months until release, so I’m assuming there will be a fresh new trailer and other promotional material at some point. 28 Years Later was filmed back to back with a fourth installment, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which is expected to premiere in January 2026. A fifth installment is also planned.
Quick Takes on the 28 Years Later Trailer
0:01-0:15 – The trailer begins with a group of kids watching Telebubbies on TV (or “on the tele”, as they say in the U.K.). The program they’re watching and the obsolete television indicate that this is a flashback to the initial outbreak from 28 Days Later. It’s probably the backstory for one or more of the adult characters.
0:52 – Writing on a barn declares, “Behold he is coming with the clouds.” Dark times are fertile breeding ground for cults and apocalyptic preachers. Has a cult sprung up in England promising deliverance to its followers?
0:54 – 1:10 – A man and a young boy, presumably a father and son, wander across the countryside armed with bows and arrows. Have they reverted to a traditional hunter gatherer lifestyle in the new world?
1:!5-1:17 – A quick shot of a man in a creepy mask. Perhaps a cult member or a soldier of some kind.
1:36-1:39 – A strange structure filled with pillars and skulls. If there is a cult, maybe this their meeting place.
1:47 – This is the most talked about shot in the trailer: an infected and emaciated Jim (Cillian Murphy). Is there any hope for him? Has anyone discovered a cure for the infected?
28 Years Later releases on June 20th. Here’s the trailer:
